Weaker banana flavour than the minis
This banana loaf is less dense than most of Soreen’s other varieties; it is airier, with a texture closer to a banana bread. It is one of the few varieties that does not contain malt, meaning that it does not benefit from the added flavour or moisture. The banana taste does not come through as strongly here as it does in the mini lunchbox loaves, which is unsurprising given the difference in percentage of banana (14% vs 19%, respectively). Overall, I would recommend the mini loaves over this larger one for a bigger flavour hit, but this is still a pleasant tasting, good quality product.
Smells like a marker pen when opening packet
Have'nt bought this for years. completely different now. Its tastes and feels very synthetic.
Dense and chewy, tastes like banana bread
This is dense, chewy and squidgy in the middle and a bit more cakey on the outside. Its not raw, thats just how its supposed to be. Quite heavy but in an enjoyable way. I imagine youll either love it or hate it depending on whether you can get on board with the dense texture. Does taste like banana bread (the cake) baked with real bananas. I like it.
obsessed
I'm really enjoying the banana loaf. It's in my basket each week. the sticky, squidgyness appeals to me - it does glue your teeth together a bit but malt loaf has always done tgat. Particularly lovely with a little salty butter and/or peanut butter.
great snack for kids
My children love this as a snack. Good price
Wonderful Soreen-Style Loaf
A lot of the reviewers clearly know nothing about Soreen loaves and simply dislike this style. It's a squidy, sticky, chewy, doughy sort of banana-flavoured bread, the untrained eye might call it undercooked, but it's supposed to be like that. Similar texture to the malt loaf without the raisins and with a strong banana flavour. It's very much its own thing and nothing like a banana loaf cake. This is a squidy sweet bread and much loved by many.
