Packington Free Range
At Packington Free Range we firmly believe that what is good for the animals and the land will naturally be good for us and better for our customers. This is the philosophy of our great grandfather before us and we believe passionately in provenance, sustainable and ethical farming which fuels our drive to create an environmentally sound and welfare orientated farm.
Our farms are in various environmental schemes, and we believe in farming in a way that increases regeneration and biodiversity, all having a positive impact on the land and on the animals. Regular surveys on our farms show that the number of different birds and wildlife species increases year on year. We have installed solar panels and use bio-mass boilers to help further reduce our carbon footprint. All of this allows us to continue to farm the land here, in Staffordshire, for generations to come.
It's this simple philosophy that enables us to produce the most succulent, richly flavoured meat that we know you'll enjoy.
Rob and Alec Mercer.

not good quality
So many blood inside
Chicken very bruised
I bought a Packington chicken and froze it for a few weeks. When I defrosted it I was dismayed at how bruised it was with blood pooled into the flesh ... the farm practices should be looked into as this chicken had been practically battered to death!!
disappointly rancid!
We have had this brand many times with out issue. This delivery was rancid. It didn't smell when removed from packaging but when cooked it tasted disgusting and the stock was also off. A disappointing dinner last Sunday.
Inconsistent
Recent offer tempted me back. Wont be buying again. The offal wasnt fully removed and i only realised once cooked. The texture of the meat was rubbery and flavour was quite strong which i think could have been affected by the offal not being fully removed. It cooked much quicker than the time stated on the bag - which no doubt affected the texture. It also wasnt tied very well which resulted in uneven cooking.
Dry
Received a money off coupon, so glad I didn't pay full price. You are advised not to wash chicken at home. Evident this chicken hadn't been properly washed at Packington. Whilst roasting, the black gunk that come out of the chicken made it impossible to baste with the juices. Hence, the chicken was dry and tasteless. I will not waste my money again.
Offer was too good to miss
I do not buy the cheapest as animal welfare is a priority. I'd recently stopped buying Packington as the birds had been smelling high when opening the bag ... perfectly safe but just slightly off-putting with maybe a bitter taste, especially to the gravy. But the recent offer was too good to pass up so I took a chance. The birds have been excellent ... a nice fresh smell with plenty of delicious white meat. As a rule, I always cook chicken as soon as possible after delivery regardless of the Use By date.
