The Kilner business was first established by John Kilner in 1842, England. Initially producing glass bottles and jars, it was towards the end of the 19th century when the original Kilner® Jar was first invented. The original jar is as much-loved and successful now as it was 175 years ago. Its long-lasting popularity is owed to its distinctive pressure seal and iconic design. Put simply, households all over the world trust it to successfully preserve and pickle their fruit and vegetables. In the 1900's, Kilner presented its innovation as 'the original and the best, all other brands are substitutes', a claim which remains relevant today, and is a testament to its impressive heritage.

A traditional glass butter dish
Made of a sturdy everyday glass construction, the correct size for half a pound of butter. It is completely dishwasher safe and can be used easily either way up. I prefer the larger portion as a lid. It is completely plastic free & I would say, traditional butter has less datives than the artificial buttery spreads.
I like it!
I dont know why others as so negative, I like this as a butter dish
Awful design - waste of money
What a terrible design! The lid is not compatible with the dish. If you try to lift the butter dish, the lid slips away and you need two hands to hold it in place. Kilner's designer should have tried to use it first in their own fridge. Total waste of money.
Slippery and accident prone
I should have thought about this intelligently: butter when soft smears, and you get it on your fingers. The top of a glass butterdish with no handle becomes dangerous in these circumstances. Too many near-misses. It's gone into the drawer of pointless purchases...
great dish, would recommend.
No idea what the other person is taking about. This is fantastic quality and just what I needed!
Disappointed
I liked the design of this product, but after only a month of use, the glass lid started to crumble away on the side, and I ended up with shards of glass in my butter, which obviously I had to throw away. I had put this in the dishwasher once or twice, so maybe it somehow weakens the glass .. apart from that it hadn't been dropped or broken.
