slow cooked to a celebration
Bought on flash sale ( bit expensive full price regardless of results) Slow cooked gas 2 for 5 hours I first seared till brown then in a pot with half a bottle of red wine , rich stock and herbs Added a bag of chunky veg in the last hour Bit of cornflour and served with mountains of creamy mash For my Halal eating guests it was a joyous reception
Here’s how I cook it
First, ignore their recipe. Slice up carrots, onions, leeks, ginger, celery, any root vegetables, or other vegetables that you have in the bottom of the refrigerator. Sauté them gently in oil till they reduce in size. Brown the meat in oil in a large Dutch oven. Add the veggies and a very large glass of hot water in which you dissolve a beef bouillon cube, tomato puree, some soya sauce (and miso, if you want.) You need these umami elements to break up the meat fibers. Add to the Dutch oven with a can of chopped tomatoes and whatever fresh herbs you like (rosemary thyme sage are good). Season. Add some red wine. Now put in the oven at 140 for at least 4 hours. Yup, it takes that long. Then enjoy as is or with potatoes, rice or noodles. Yum.
Awful awful meat
This was so tough and tasteless despite perfect cooking. Never, ever again! We all felt ill afterwards it was so difficult to digest. The second I bought going straight in the bin
Where was the meat?
All fat and sinew. The worst I have ever had
tough as old boots
Be good for re-soling your boots!
Even the dog wouldn\x27t eat it
This meat was truly inedible. As stated in a previous review, made up of small pieces of meat and tough as old boots. Seriously, the dog walked away from it even though he was hungry!
