I will avoid in future – very unpleasant
These used to be an enjoyable pie and worth keeping in the cupboard as an enjoyable meal option. I tired one a year or so ago before they went “Back to our classic recipe” and it was at that time quite awful – no meat at all, just a weird gravy and greasy pastry. This new “classic recipe” is little better. Only about a tablespoon of meat and lost of some sort of gravy, pastry is a little better especially at a £3.25 price point!!! I really don’t know why these tinned pies still exist when there are so many great alternatives many at a cheaper price and far better quality than this rubbish. I will avoid in future.
gravy and pastry
very poor value as hardly any steak or kidney. 2 small pieces of each. not enough to feed 1 person! very tasty though.
perfect retro food
Follow the cooking instructions to the letter and you will be presented with a giant disc of golden puff pastry nestling on a bed of steak in gravy. Yes its pork kidneys. The tin tells you that! Yes its processed food its in a tin for goodness sake! However this is a very occasional lifelong guilty secret and jolly good it is too.
PORK KIDNEY in a Steak and Kidney Pie!
PORK KIDNEY in a Steak and Kidney Pie! Ultra processed rubbish that used Pork Kidney (as its cheaper). Pork is a dirty meat as Pigs cannot sweat out toxins You are a vile company Frey Bentos, Profit over product
Meat!
Gravy, that is what this is. Gravy with a pastry top. Tasty but empty. Expensive for just that! Not a bargain at all.
dont believe the haters
Even though the meat content has diminished over the years I found myself craving the ever so slightly undercooked puff pastry and meaty steak and kidney gravy in this absolutely wonderful pie I even upgraded my can opener so I could experience these again and As the memories of student times came flooding back I found I was not disappointed Haters gonna hate but Ive got a Frey bentos on my plate
