Product information

Franschhoek Cellar offers a distinctive range of single varietal wines, capturing the vibrant character and charm of the valley, whilst paying homage to the historical landmarks of the village that help tell the story of this incredible place. Old mill houses were once a common feature on the landscape of the valley, and La Cotte is one of the few original mills that remain. This artisanal workhouse was restored in 1989 by the Franschhoek Conservation Trust in association with our Franschhoek Cellar. Our Chenin Blanc pays homage to this valued landmark.

Tasting Notes

Animated pineapple, fleshy peach, nectarine and honeysuckle aromas supported by a line of bright citrus and tropical fruit that blossom with leesy intrigue on the palate and finish with zesty freshness and grace.
History
The wine estate was built in 1920 and by 1947 the wine cellar was completed and a group of local farmers starting making wines under the Franschhoek Cellar name.  In 2008, a return to private ownership saw Franschhoek Cellar move back to its roots in celebrating its heritage and focusing on creating varietal wines that reflect our unique South African terroir. Franschhoek is one of the truly great wine & food destinations in South Africa.

Very good

Pronounced nose of apple, pear, lime, grapefruit, peach, pineapple and passion fruit, with notes of flint and minerality. Matching intensity on the palate that balances well the medium acidity and medium alcohol. Medium(+) finish with notes of tropical fruit. Dry, medium(+) body. Will go well with creamy herb chicken.

Easy drinking

A great easy drinking wine. Not very complex, but great for a routine glass at home.

Delicious!

Being South African my husband and I LOVE a good Chenin. We love the Franschoek Chenin as a well priced regular drinking wine. Simply delicious and very easy to drink.
