Product information

This wine is sourced from the famous medieval sun drenched region of Cahors, famous for its inky, deep coloured wines made predominantly from Malbec grapes which have historically been grown throughout this stunningly scenic appellation located in the south west of France.

This is a structured, full bodied yet elegant red made using super-ripe Malbec grapes which have been enriched with a hint of oak. This wine is bursting with blackberry and blackcurrant fruit flavours and would make a perfect partner to all types of roasted meats including beef or lamb.

History
During the middle age, Cahors was known as the 'Black Wine' and was served at the wedding of Eleanor of Acquitaine and Henri II Plantagenet of England. The first vines were planted there around 50 BC. Thanks to the river Lot, the wines of Cahors could be shipped to Bordeaux and on to the UK where it was a firm favourite until the 19th century when Phylloxera destroyed the vineyard. Following the replanting, Cahors acquired its AOP status in 1971.

OK

I bought this on offer and would never pay full price for it. Its easy drinking but has very little fruit flavour so I would use it to make Sangria or mix with soda water or lemonade for someone who wants a spritzer but otherwise wouldnt bother buying again.

cahors wine

There is a strong tannin taste to this wine - there is very little fruit, it is harsh and difficult to drink
