CJ Wildlife Squirrel Resistant Wild Bird Peanut Feeder 730g
£16.20
£22.19 per kgProduct information
This Peanut Feeder is made from a strong metal and has a robust outer protective mesh to stop larger birds and squirrels from entering whilst smaller birds fly through the outer mesh and feed from the inner mesh. When large birds and squirrels try to sit on this feeder, it swings freely on the handle, making it difficult for them to feed.
Instructions
Open the lid at the top and fill the feeder with seed. Hang the feeder from a bracket, feeding station or tree.

not squirrel proof
Squirrels very quickly found out how to get the lid off and take the nuts. I tried wiring it closed but they gnawed through the wire then removed the lid. Its a pity because its a nice looking feeder
It is not squirrel proof!
Within a day the squirrels had figured out how to open the lid and empty it of all the peanuts! Will have to find another....
Seems squirrel, magpie & jackdaw proof here
Much loved by tits, gold finches nuthatches & sparrows So far it has defeated our fearless squirrels, magpies & jackdaws.
Great for keeping out bully birds
We don't use this feeder to keep out squirrels, we use it to keep out crows and sometimes pigeons. For this purpose it is wonderfully effective and the clever crows have now gone elsewhere while the smallest birds have a safe haven. I don't have a problem feeding larger birds, however it's lovely to see a variety of birds around our feeding area rather than just the big bullies. The only reason I've given the feeder 4 stars rather than 5 is that it's not tried and tested against squirrels in our garden (which is what most people will buy it for).
Squirrel has trashed it
Squirrel has not only managed to get it open and take all the peanuts, it has damaged the lid so it cannot be used again. Not up to the job.
Title Name misleading.
Bought this feeder alongside another feeder for garden variety to give lots of different birds a chance. My young boys filled them both. 2 weeks + later nothing gone from this one. Why? The internal mesh is far too small to get a peanut out. Having just gone back to the item description I now see it says in seed or peanut variety. Ocado, you need to be more specific. I need a peanut feeder (now have half a hundredweight of peanuts and nowhere to out them). A disappointing waste of money. I'm disappointed and there are some very hungry deprived larger birds out there!
Review response
Dear Customer - It is essential for a peanut feeder to have a tight mesh as otherwise birds can eat whole peanuts The idea of the tight mesh is that the birds have to brake the nuts into smaller pieces to make them bite size. If whole peanuts are fed there is a possibility that the young chicks can choke during the breeding season, and this is why it is recommended you always use a peanut feeder. This particular feeder is a squirrel resistant feeder and therefore has an outer cage which is designed to keep the squirrels and large birds out as they take all the food from the smaller species. The hole size is designed so that anything from Blue tit to Nuthatch size can enter through the outer mesh and feed from the inner mesh in safety from their predators. It sometimes takes a few weeks before the birds get use to going through the outer mesh if they have never seen one before.
