History
Beronia is named after the Berones, a Celtic tribe who inhabited La Rioja in the 3rd Century BC. The winery was founded in 1973 by a group of local businessmen whose great love of food and wine attracted them to the idea of producing their own Rioja.
Regional Information
Bodegas Beronia is situated in Ollauri, the heart of Rioja Alta. To the North the Cantabria Mountain range and to the South the Demanda Mountain range, a unique area for the production of high quality wines. The influence of the Atlantic and the minerals from the Ebro river convert this area into a privileged area for the cultivation of the vine. In addition the diversity of the soils gives a great complexity and marked character to the wines.

Vinification Details
The grapes used for Beronia Gran Reserva are chosen in the vineyards, usually from the oldest vines. On arrival to the winery the grapes are hand selected on a sorting table and only the best quality used for the Gran Reserva. The grape must is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged for 26 months in French oak barrels. The wine remains in bottle for a further 36 months before it is released.

Needs Time

This is a pleasant Red but please decant this wine for at least a good hour or two before drinking, its a pretty complex wine and needs to breathe to bring out all the flavors. I didn't find this very fruity and was pretty thin, this is personal preference of course, slight acidity, hints of chocolate and spices, i even got some slight notes of liquorish here to, not a great wine but at this price for its complexity, its nice and goes down well. I think it might get better with age, maybe another 2 years or so.

Brilliant - upgrade on the already good riserva

Ive been drinking this since about the 2005. always good and pretty consistent. Perhaps become a little heavier over the years with less honey on the finish (might just been that I am drinking faster these days!)

Nice wine with plenty of dark fruit flavours

A little more than I'd normally pay for wine but got this with my 'Ocado anniversary' voucher. An easy drinking wine with plenty of dark fruit flavour and a hint of chocolate. Went very well with steak.

Great full bodied wine

We loved the 2007 most but now drinking the 2010. Soft tannins, oak and deep Berrys. A powerful wine, great with good ribeye steak!

Had a bad one...

First bottle was sublime, second was undrinkable... truly polar opposites. I don't know what was wrong with the second but it went straight down the sink... hope the rest of you are luckier!
