Strong by name, strong by nature. This is the breakfast tea you love, but more so. Bold and full of flavour.
Where does it come from?
It's hard to have a favourite tea at Twinings.
But if we had to pick, this would be it.
We travelled the world to find the perfect balance of leaves from the best tea gardens in Assam, Africa and Sri Lanka. Of these, the African teas grown to the east of the Great Rift Valley make it particularly special.
What makes this tea different?
East of the rift, African teas get the perfect amount of sun and rain. They add a real brightness and character to this blend.

cant leave to brew
Lovely flavour - strong but without the malty/ bitter taste i sometimes find i get with strong teabags- only complaint is you do need to stir and squeeze to get the flavour out -when you just leave them to brew in the teapot/mug they are so watery and tasteless.
Lovely strong taste
I tried these once when they were on offer and haven’t bought any other types of tea since. The flavour of these is great and they are much stronger than normal tea so don’t take as long to brew.
For the price, this a a darn good cuppa. Strong but not too laced with tannins. Start the day with it, yum.
strong and great with milk
My preferred variety for last 5 years.
Lovely strong cuppa
Really enjoyed this product a new family favourite - for those who like a strong brew I recommend!
What happened to this tea?
I started buying 1706 a few years ago. I like a strong cuppa with a good flavour, but which doesn't turn bitter if you forget to take the bag out right away. This was the most reliable I could find for years and would seek high and low for it, recommending it to friends and family. Now it seems to have changed and not for the better. I have just made my third cup of tea in three days and today left the bag in for almost 10 minutes. Again - and for the last few boxes - I thought it was a fluke - the flavour was insipid, weak and very disappointing, especially given the exorbitant price. Shan't be buying again. M&S City Blend now has my loyalty.
