Tasting Notes
A beautiful nose redolent of fresh, ripe blackberry and black plum jam, gently framed by notes of dried thyme and toast. On the palate, the wine is full and juicy, brimming with more black fruit and touches of bittersweet chocolate, mint, and dried straw. Generous and harmonious, with velvety tannins and a long, smooth finish.
History
Early spring rains filled reservoirs and gave the vines ample water for the growing season. While bud break and flowering were a bit late, the season began under ideal weather conditions, creating excellent fruit set. Summer sunshine was tempered by the region's cool breezes and fog, which ensured slow, even ripening for the perfect balance of retained freshness and maximum flavour development. Grapes were picked between September 21 and November 3.
Regional Information
Fruit for this wine comes from regions specially selected for their contributions to a blend that is a true reflection of place, a gorgeous expression of Napa Valley. Portions of the fruit come from two of the valley's most renowned sub-appellations and vineyards: our To Kalon Vineyard® in Oakville on the well-drained alluvial bench surrounding the winery, and our Wappo Hill Vineyard in the Stags Leap district.

Vinification Details
The grapes were hand-harvested in the cool mornings, then gently destemmed and crushed. The wine was fermented in French oak tanks for soft, supple tannins, and then stainless steel tanks for purity of fruit expression. Twenty-four days of maceration maximized colour and flavour extraction and polished the tannins for a lush, round mouthfeel. The new wine was transferred to 60-gallon French oak barrels (19% new) for malolactic fermentation and 16 months of ageing to develop greater roundness and depth.
