The NICEST
Gorgeous cake, good as home made, and will definitely buy again. Re packaging, please could you add a cardboard disk under the cake inside the film bag. Thanks.
Really artificial taste
This cake tasted artificial and was very dry and definitely was not a lemon drizzle. Has this thick layer of icing on top which is disgusting. Poor quality.
lemon overload and not in a good way
The whole thing with a lemon drizzle cake is that its got a drizzly topping that sort of runs through the rest of the cake surely? This is a lemon sandwich cake filled with very strong lemon curd topped with a generous lemony icing which somehow manages to be overly sweet and too tart at the same time. Never thought Id ever have anything negative to say about cake!
A matter of taste
Personally I prefer the top to be granulated sugar with lemon juice drizzled onto it and no lemon curd. On the very rare occasions I made it myself this is how I do it and I believe it is the classic recipe. This version is far too sweet and synthetic tasting for me. I feel it is so far away from the classic recipe that perhaps it should be called Iced Lemon Curd Cake then people without a very sweet tooth would know to avoid it and vice versa. I gave it three stars because my partner prefers this version.
zingy and moist
This cake is absolutely yummy. although the topping is sweet, the sponge has a sharp lemony tang through it and the filling is very tangy. This is the nicest shop bought lemon cake I have had.
delicious
The only downside is the difficulty in removing it from the packaging.
