When this arrived I noticed that the string loop was small and close to the coconut, not a long loop like in the photo here. A couple of reviews said that previously squirrels had chewed through the long string and the coconut was gone so the manufacturer has fixed this problem. The loop now is just enough to go over a hook or sawn of stub of a branch. As a result the coconut doesnt swing round as much and now it faces your window all the time so you get a good view of birds. The squirrels dont take it down. The birds love it. Weve had blue tits, great tits, robin and hedge sparrows so far. One quarter of the shell is removed to give access to the suet inside and to make access easy for birds.
The price is not the lowest but it is almost a complete coconut, lasts a long time and great favourite with all birds.
Sadly the string at the top broke the day I put it up - probably a squirrel trying to run off with it. I tried to fix it with a piece of metal but it didn't work. A shame because it looks good - though it didn't attract many birds.
we should all do our bit
This is a great way to help wildlife. The blue tits and smaller finches love this. And on our other tree the Magpies adore.
I love to watch robins and tits settling themselves inside a part empty nut. We also attract a few more unusual small birds - as were in the New Forest our garden can get quite busy with birds.
Birds love this
Hung it in a tree it was gone by the next morning.
