Good value and good quality
Tested against Tilda\x27 Basmati rice
I cooked both this rice and Tilda's basmati rice on an induction hob 2mins at 9 then 20 mins at 3. 166g rice with 520ml water. No noticeable difference in finished rice. Save yourself a few pounds and buy this rice over the more expensive competition.
Good everyday rice but lacking in Basmati aroma
I am Indian & eat rice daily. This is a decent priced everyday basmati but does not have the typical Aroma or flavour of good quality basmati. I would not use this for special ocassion cooking. There is a brand called India gate which sell good basmati,it has the typical beautiful Aroma that separates Basmati from other rice variety & richer flavour. I wish Ocado would stock India gate Basmati. There are different quality levels of Basmati Rice. Ocado please stock India Gate Basmati!
Great value and easy to cook
A super value bag of rice as you get a lot for your money. Its easy and quick to cook on the stove top or even easier if you have an electric rice cooker. It tastes good, we like it when cooked with slightly less water, otherwise it comes out a bit soggy. Even better when you add a splash or olive oil and a pinch of salt to the water before cooking.
Easy to overcook
The first few times I used this rice I found it got mushy very easily. My cooking technique was to soak the rice in cold water for 30 minutes, then drain and rinse, then bring to a simmer for 7 minutes, and let stand for 3 minutes. I found that simply rinsing the rice, and not letting it soak, gave better results. Even so, not quite as good as the leading brand, which I'll probably buy next time - not so fragrant.
Great value
Nice rice at a good price. Will buy again.
