HOW TO TREAT A
FUNGAL NAIL INFECTION

WHAT DOES A
FUNGAL NAIL LOOK LIKE?

Treatment of a fungal nail infection can take a long time and lots of care to avoid infecting healthy toenails. Always wash your hands after touching an infected nail. Sterilise the tools used for pedicures by cleaning them thoroughly under hot water or using alcoholic wipes. Do not use nail polish and fake nails while you're treating an infection as they could contribute to the growth and spread of fungi. Protect your feet from direct contact with the floor by wearing flip flops in swimming pools, showers or changing rooms.

A fungal infection can change the colour and appearance of nails. It usually starts at a small area of the nail and discolouring it, becoming white, yellow to brown, green or even black. Left untreated, the infection can spread deeper, resulting in thickened or flaky nails and in extreme cases, leading to pain and discomfort.
